Overview

  • Enjoy an authentic Caribbean experience as we visit Nicaragua's spectacular Corn Islands—still relatively untouched by tourism.
  • Spend an evening in the charming colonial town of Granada.
  • Snorkel beautiful coral reefs, with multiple opportunities to snorkel at a variety of sites.

For the seasoned eco-traveler, this itinerary will remind you of how the Caribbean was 30 years ago, before the cruise ships and sanitized tourism. The Corn Islands have some of the healthiest reefs in the Caribbean. Little Corn Island is famous for its easy-to-access and good snorkeling reefs, accessible either by boat or from the beach. Our last evening will be spent in the charming city of Granada. Here we will get a flavor of Granada’s colonial past and some of Nicaragua's cultural history.

Enjoy eight days of authentic Caribbean adventure, full of sun, sand, and great reefs! Extensions to the Pearl Cayes or to spend more time in Granada are available.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nicaragua
Your guide will meet you upon arrival to the International Airport in Managua. Take a short transfer to the nearby Hotel Camino Real for welcome dinner, introductions and general orientation.

Overnight at Hotel Camino Real (www.caminoreal.com.ni).

Day 2: Corn Island
Our flight from Managua to Big Corn Island departs early in the morning and we are scheduled to arrive in Big Corn Island at approximately 07:30 AM. We then have an exciting water taxi to Little Corn Island and our beachfront B&B. We will relax and enjoy our new setting for the next five nights. There are plenty of activity options for a change of pace – yoga, paddleboarding, kayaking, or just relaxing on the beach. We can snorkel from the beach as well. We’ll have an early lunch and then start our reef exploration with an afternoon snorkeling trip.

Overnight at Little Corn Island Beach and Bungalow (www.littlecornbb.com).

Day 3: Beaches, reefs and marine ecosystem exploration On our first full day on the island we will explore the area by boat with various snorkeling stops. For scuba enthusiasts, we can assist you in making arrangements to scuba dive. In the Corn Islands we are surrounded by a beautiful Caribbean reef system that is much more intact than many reef systems because the Corn Islands are well below the normal Hurricane tracks.

Overnight at Little Corn Island Beach and Bungalow.

Days 4-6: Corn Island
Early risers may enjoy an optional sunrise yoga practice or nature walk. Other possible activities are a local fishing experience and the opportunity for artisanal fishing. For snorkel lovers we can visit different sites around the island. Snorkeling trips will be planned for each morning & afternoon.

Overnight at Little Corn Island Beach and Bungalow.

Day 7: Colonial city of Granada
After another snorkel opportunity in Big Corn Island, we will return to Managua and then on to the colonial city of Granada, where we will spend our last night. While our visit will be short, we will get a flavor of Granada’s colonial past and some cultural history of Nicaragua. We’ll have a farewell dinner and enjoy the sights.

Overnight at Hotel Colonial (www.hotelcolonialgranada.com) or equivalent.

Day 8: Depart
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight. We will be about one hour from the airport. Optional trip extensions to the Pearl Cays or to spend more time in Granada are available upon request.
